Evaluating the use of a Net-Metering mechanism in microgrids to reduce power generation costs with a swarm-intelligent algorithm

The micro-generation of electricity arises as a clean and efficient alternative to provide electrical power. However, the unpredictability wind solar radiation poses challenge attend load demand, while maintaining stable operation microgrids (MGs). This paper proposes modeling optimization, using swarm-intelligent algorithm, hybrid MG system (HMGS) with Net-Metering compensation policy. Using real industrial residential data from Spanish region, HMGS generic ESS is used analyze influence four different levels regarding costs, percentage renewable energy sources (RESs), LOLP. Furthermore, performance two ESSs, Lithium Titanate Spinel (Li4Ti5O12 (LTO)) Vanadium redox flow batteries (VRFB), assessed in terms final $/kWh costs provided by MG. results obtained indicate that policy reduces surplus over 14% less than 0.5% increases RESs participation more 10%. Results also show that, yearly projection, VRFB 25% can yield 100000$ dollars savings, when compared LTO without Net-Metering.
